Diciannove: Cafe Jolly

On to the next cafe! Just feeling a little guilty for indulging in half a container of Maggie Beer ice cream, but hey, I didn't have dinner so it's all good... right....

So tomorrow's going to be a scorcher, 43 degrees across Sydney, what am I going to do with myself?? Wait.. why did I just finish all the ice cream?!? =( Time to go get more. Recently I've been holing myself up in my room, blasting air con at myself while watching Korean drama show IRIS... 20 episodes long, and when I tried to watch it at double speed, I didn't understand what was going on, so I actually have to tolerate it in full time... taking forever to finish watching the whole thing.

Oh right, the cafe. 'Twas a jolly good cafe indeed, all the way at Leichhardt, right where S, our star cafe buddy lives. Maybe by the end of this entry, I'll be able to spell Leichhardt without google searching its correct spelling.
This was one of our post badminton food location. The whole badminton gang headed over to crash S' place when we decided the cafe had better food. Jk. S makes awesome lamb ribs and roast chicken. Note: bring cheese before crashing her place, or she might refuse you entry.

Digressing too much today. I don't remember much of this place anymore, except for its awesome entrees  more to come. I don't remember whether my flatwhite was good or not either, but I do find it strange that there's a long spoon sticking out of it... did it come like that?? I don't use the spoon since I don't add sugar... unless it's iced long black. Even so, I prefer sugar syrup in that.

This is what every cheese toast should look like. In fact, it won't be complete without chilli and honey. It is exactly this combination of cheese, chilli and honey that unexpectedly melts together in your mouth to create a wonderful balance of sweet, spicy and salty. Really not hard to make either- I replicated this at home with a french baguette, shredded my own cheese, some hot chilli flakes, and toasted that in the oven. Poured honey after that on top and ta-da-done! Yes, you gotta put the honey last because otherwise it all slides off the cheese in the oven (yes, I tried that and it did fail).

Obviously wasn't that hungry because all we ordered were entrees while the boys at the other end of the table were ordering pastas and other mains....

Like so. Yep, that's probably half a canister of cheese right on top. It's all good, we played a couple of hours of sports right before.

I always prefer wedges over fries when ordering sides because of the sour cream. You don't get sour cream with fries. Then I pick out the small crunchy wedges because those ones are better than the big fat ones. I am talking about wedges here. Anyway, if fries came with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce, I'll definitely order that instead.

This is S' favourite dish- Garlic prawn. She will literally consume every granule of garlic in this little cast iron pot, even after all the prawns have been polished off. It is THAT good.

Salt and pepper squid, which I think was FL's, so we didn't have any. Apparently it wasn't crispy and she was expecting it to be. Don't you just hate it when food doesn't turn out the way you expected it to? Ordered a dessert once, expecting it to be cold, and surprise surprise, it was actually a warm dessert o O felt completely wrong even though it was still good...

I went back to this cafe once, but it wasn't opened. Leichhardt isn't exactly the most convenient of all places to go to so I don't see myself visiting it often. I would go back for the prawns and the honey chilli cheese bread, but now that I make it myself at home, I guess I won't get that craving for it as strongly or as often.

Oh, before I forget:

Happy Father's Day, dad, from half a year ago =P Pishon did fantastic black forest cakes. It was purely by chance that they had my dad's favourite type of cake.

Argh, in this weather, just looking at burning candles make me feel all hot and uncomfortable. Go away summer!

Hello... This is completely unrelated, but are you the same person who owns eternalwind.blogspot.com?

Hi Sandy,

Wow, I don't even remember that place existing. That blog was mine back about a decade ago. Unfortunately, I don't have access to it anymore and have forgotten the login to it. Sorry if you wanted that domain name...

Haha, you guessed right. I was going to ask if you would be willing to release that domain name. Blogspot/Blogger are all consolidated into Google now so I was curious if you would have a way to connect to it through your current one. :)

It's not linked with my current google account which this blog is on. I tried logging in with my old hotmail account (back then it wasn't part of google yet, so it should have been under my hotmail account) but it didn't work. Wish I could help, sorry =(
